A continuation of the beginning of the next phase of my life

The temp this morning is in the upper-30s and the humidity is high. The sky is once again covered with heavy clouds and there is no wind, at this moment.
I will be taking a run into Rolla, today, to buy some more travelers’ checks and attending to a couple of other details.
Boy! What a strenuous day I have had! Let me tell you, dear Diary.
I started out to Licking to mail a box to Thailand and then to get a haircut, my last before my trip. I wanted to arrive properly shorn.
The vehicle has been problematic since the starter motor has decided to die. I have been getting along alright by hitting it with a hammer when it will not respond to the electricity from the ignition. This has worked just fine until today. When I completed getting my haircut, the motor would not function, and, as a result, the vehicle would not start. I fooled with hitting it on and off for more than an hour. I walked up to the garage from the barber’s salon, but they did not have any efficacious advice. So I walked back, again. I whacked it one more time, before dissolving into tears, and it started. I could almost not believe it!
By that time, it was almost noon. So, I headed off to Rolla. At the bank, I managed to procure my travelers’ checks and to do a bit of other business. Then, I went to the laundry and washed my clothes. All of this time, I kept the engine running. That did not really use too much gas; at least, not as much as I had expected.
By about 1PM, the sky began to open slightly and, by the time that I had returned home, the cloud cover was at only about 70%. The high temp, during the afternoon, was in the upper-50s and, when I arrived home at about 3PM, the thermometer showed a high of 60F.
So, I have survived my day, but just barely. At least, I do not have to restart the vehicle again before leaving.
